About Us
Drink smarter, not cheaper. Empowering you to trade up with confidence.
The What?
SavvySipper is an intelligent wine-list analysis platform designed to make restaurant wine easier to understand.
We analyse the wines available, compare pricing against retail benchmarks, assess ratings and recommendations, examine the economics of glasses, carafes and bottles, and surface the wines that deserve a closer look.
The aim is not to make everyone order the cheapest bottle on the list.
SavvySipper is about giving you enough information to spend more confidently when the wine is worth it... and helping you recognise when it isn't.
The Why?
Restaurants invest enormous amounts of time and expertise into their food. Menus are carefully developed around ingredients, seasonality and the chef's vision, yet the wine list can contain many times more individual choices than the food menu.
That's where SavvySipper comes in. Wine lists contain a wealth of information (pricing, serving sizes, producers, regions, grapes, ratings and potential pairings) but that information isn't always easy for a diner to interpret.
SavvySipper analyses that information to help you understand the choices in front of you, compare value and discover wines that deserve a closer look. We don't tell you what to order. We simply give you better information with which to make the decision.
Know Before You Order
Whether you're planning an evening in advance or already sitting at the table, SavvySipper helps turn a complicated wine list into something considerably easier to navigate.
Scan the menu and explore the wines available, their pricing, ratings, value indicators, food pairing suggestions and additional insights before making your choice.
No lengthy wine qualification required. No need to pretend you've spent the afternoon studying Burgundy.
Just useful information, presented when you need it.
Trade Up With Confidence
The cheapest bottle is not necessarily the best value, and the most expensive bottle certainly isn't automatically the best wine.
SavvySipper looks for the sweet spot between quality, price and suitability, helping you identify occasions where spending a little more could deliver considerably more enjoyment.
That might mean discovering a £35 bottle that deserves to be chosen over the £25 option, or recognising that the £60 bottle isn't offering quite the value its position on the list might suggest.
The decision remains yours. We simply give you better information with which to make it.
Understand What You're Paying For
Restaurant wine pricing is complicated for perfectly legitimate reasons. Restaurants have staff, rent, storage, breakage, service, stock risk and a considerable amount of work behind every bottle that reaches the table.
But that doesn't mean every price represents the same value.
SavvySipper helps you understand the relationship between restaurant pricing and retail pricing, while also examining how individual venues structure their wine lists.
Because knowing the price is useful.
How SavvySipper Helps You Sip Smarter
Mark-Up Margins
Understand the difference between restaurant pricing and retail pricing.
SavvySipper compares restaurant wine-list prices against retail benchmarks to help identify where a bottle sits within the wider market.
The result is a clearer picture of which wines appear competitively priced and which carry a considerably more substantial premium.
Glass Genius
Because a glass of wine deserves some mathematical attention too.
By the time you've ordered your fourth glass, you may have paid considerably more than you expected.
SavvySipper examines the relationship between glass, carafe and bottle pricing, helping you understand the economics of the different serving sizes available.
Sometimes the glass is exactly the right choice.
Sometimes the bottle makes much more sense.
And occasionally the maths deserves a raised eyebrow.
Vivino's Verdict
An additional layer of confidence from the wider wine community.
When you're faced with an unfamiliar bottle, community ratings can provide a useful indication of how other wine drinkers have responded to it.
SavvySipper brings that information into the wider analysis, giving you another useful reference point alongside price, style and the rest of the wine-list data.
Perfect Pairings
Because the right wine can make a very good meal even better.
SavvySipper considers the wines available on the menu and provides food-pairing suggestions designed to help you find combinations that work.
Whether you're ordering seafood, steak, cheese or something considerably harder to categorise, the aim is simple: make the wine part of the meal rather than an afterthought.
Sommelier Secrets
Look beyond the obvious choices.
Every wine list has its familiar names. SavvySipper looks a little further, highlighting interesting wines, lesser-known producers, regions, grapes and other bottles that may deserve your attention.
The most expensive or recognisable bottle isn't always the most interesting one.
Sometimes the best discovery is sitting several lines further down the list.
Savvy Trivia
A little wine knowledge never hurts.
Each scan can reveal an interesting piece of wine trivia, giving you something useful to know about the wines you're considering.
Think of it as the sort of information that can make a conversation about wine considerably more interesting without requiring anyone to become a sommelier.
?? Savvy's Insight
Wine pricing in restaurants isn't just about the bottle; it's about the experience. We help you navigate that complexity by identifying the "sweet spot" bottles... the ones that offer the highest quality-to-price ratio on any given list.
We decipher complex restaurant wine lists so you can sip smarter.
Every scan reveals Sommelier Secrets, the menu’s hidden gems, and Savvy Trivia to help you impress the table.
Who Is SavvySipper For?
SavvySipper is designed for anyone who enjoys wine but would rather make an informed decision than simply point at a bottle and hope for the best.
The Strategic Upgrader
You're happy to spend more when the additional money buys you a genuinely better experience.
You aren't looking for the cheapest bottle on the list. You're looking for the point at which your additional spend starts delivering additional enjoyment.
The Table Hero
The wine list inevitably ends up in your hands.
Friends expect you to know what you're doing, and you would rather not disappoint them.
SavvySipper gives you another source of information when you need to make that decision quickly and confidently.
The System Beater
You've noticed that restaurant wine pricing can become rather interesting when you compare glasses, carafes and bottles.
You'd quite like to know where the best value sits before ordering.
SavvySipper does the maths for you.
The Pragmatic Oenophile
You enjoy discovering unfamiliar grapes, regions and producers, but you also care about what you're getting for your money.
You want interesting wine, intelligently chosen and fairly priced.
We rather like that approach.
The SavvySipper Difference
SavvySipper isn't designed to tell restaurants what they should charge.
Nor is it designed to tell diners what they must order.
We provide the information that sits between the two.
For diners, that means greater confidence when navigating a wine list.
For restaurants, it provides an opportunity to understand how their wine list looks through the eyes of an informed customer.
For retailers and wholesalers, it creates a connection between wine discovery at the table and purchasing decisions beyond it.
And for producers, it creates another route through which consumers can discover their wines in the context where they first encountered them.
That makes SavvySipper more than a wine scanner.
It is a bridge between the restaurant table, the wine trade and the consumer.
The SavvySipper Story
In early September 2025, the concept for SavvySipper was born during a business meeting at the Quill Wine Bar in London Bridge. After years of navigating the city's vibrant hospitality scene, Quill had all the makings of a superb venue.
However, a closer look at the menu revealed a pricing structure that simply didn't add up.

It was significantly better value to order 500ml carafes than the 750ml bottles. This highlighted a common but opaque hospitality mechanic: dynamic volume pricing or the "Glass Tax". Carafes are the perfect "Goldilocks" option... offering a lower perceived entry cost, moving high-volume stock quickly to prevent spoilage, and using psychological deal anchoring to tempt patrons into drinking more overall.
While this is an operational strategy for the venue, it sparked a broader question: what if there was a pocket-sized wine list wizard? A personal AI sommelier that could spot these anomalies rapidly, levelling the playing field for the consumer? That was the lightbulb moment.

Initial development iterations focused on basic OCR (optical character recognition) to pull text from a menu, but the real breakthrough came with the integration of open-source retail data. By cross-referencing restaurant lists with live market prices, we could expose the markup margins rapidly.
Competitor analysis showed that apps like Raisinable and Corkscrew had attempted similar utilities, but often stumbled on data accuracy or user experience, getting bogged down in complex subscription models or limited restaurant coverage.
We stripped away the friction. No premium paywalls. No account required to scan. Just open the app, snap a photo, and get rapid access to our 6 core data points: Vivino's Verdict, Mark-Up Margins, Glass Genius, Sommelier Secrets, Perfect Pairings, and Savvy Trivia.

...Right now it is completely FREE to use.
